As 2015 comes to an end, many of us are thinking of where we would be welcoming in the new year. So many cities around the world are preparing to celebrate our ascend into 2016 with parties and festivities before counting down to the fireworks that will light up the skies.

If you are thinking of where to go to welcome the coming year, these are the best cities in the world to celebrate New Year's Eve.

1. New York, USA

New York is spectacular this time of year. It is one of the best places to spend Christmas and welcome in the new year. With the city fully decorated in all its splendor, New York is world famous for its New Year's Eve festivities.

The celebrations in New York during this time have been depicted many times in popular TV shows, such as “How I Met Your Mother”.

During New Year's Eve, thousands of people will gather in Times Square enjoying the cheerful atmosphere as they watch famous musicians perform. Waiting patiently for the moment that the 12-foot wide crystal ball, will drop and the countdown begins.

If you would like something different, go for a nighttime boat ride at New York Harbor. This will give you amazing views of the fireworks from Liberty Island, come midnight.


2. Las Vegas, Nevada

We know how much you love Vegas; we love it too. On a normal day Las Vegas will be lit up all night as people party away. During New Year's Eve, the lively crowd will take it a step further. A little scary to think about, but you know you won't be disappointed in Vegas… well not in this sense.

There will often be performances from famous stars before and after countdown. The spectacle that is Las Vegas during New Year's Eve however, comes from many of the big names on the strip, such as the MGM Grand, the Bellagio, Paris Las Vegas and many more showing off their fireworks display, Vegas style.


3.Rio De Janeiro, Brazil

Brazilians love to party; we all know about their Carnival festivities and how much they go all out for that. Well New Year's Eve is just as wild. Copacabana Beach will play host to one of the largest New Year's party in the world. Many people will use all white during the festivities in Brazil to symbolize a new start.

The fireworks show is world famous. They used to launch the fireworks from the beach itself, however, these days they are launched from various locations.


4. Sydney, Australia

The wonderful city of Sydney. If you had read our post on the 'Best Cities to Celebrate Christmas', you know that the Australian city is a haven for those seeking something different this time of year. Christmas on the beach with the sun, sea and sand is definitely different.

New Year's festivities at the Sydney however, are world famous. The fireworks display in 2014 were designed by Foti International Fireworks and includes 11,000 shells, 25,000 shooting comets and 100,000 individual pyrotechnic effects.

The amazing show is one of the most viewed New Year's Eve celebrations in the world, with over 2 million people watching from their TV sets alone.

5. London, England

Londoners will line up all along the River Thames and gather at Trafalgar Square for the festivities. At midnight, Big Ben will chime as everyone in London witnesses the 10-minute show. Big Ben will pulse with fireworks timed for 12 strokes of the hour, the London Eye and House of Parliament also join in the show.

The city keeps busy after the countdown with many parties going on into the early hours of the New Year. During the day on the newly entered year, there will be a parade on the streets of central London with colorful floats, marching bands, dancers and a procession of the Queen's horses. What a way to start the year!


6. Paris, France

Picture watching the Eiffel Tower with colorful displays of fireworks! People opening Champagne bottles as cheerful joy fills the air. That's the end-of-year celebration at Paris.

The Parisian will wish each other Bonne Années and exchange small kisses at midnight. The common New Year treats that you will find are papillottes (that look like little presents), chocolates or other confections that pop as to replicate little fire crackers.

Whether you choose to enjoy a gourmet dinner or walk the night away, don't forget to stop and witness the iconic iron structure of France light up at midnight.


7. Berlin, Germany

The party central of Europe had to make the list. New Year's Eve celebration is known as “Silvester” in Berlin. The festivities here are wild, they even have a “Party Mile”, which starts on December 30th. With bars, music stages, party tents, food stalls and many more making up the 2 kilometer stretch.

The city will of course, have a display of fireworks come midnight. The main attraction however, is not the celebrations in the sky, but rather on the ground. This is Berlin's biggest party and will go on way after midnight. Also, if you're feeling up to it, Berlin has a free 4 kilometer run on New Year's day.
